Engineering management

The engineering support
your scheme requires.

CEM and CRE support scoped around the project, relevant discipline and the railway interface.

Connect engineering roles to the development

A Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) appointment may form part of a scheme’s engineering management arrangements. The roles required, discipline coverage and acceptance route should be confirmed for the project.

Support with a defined scope

  • Engineering management planning and responsibilities.
  • Coordination between designers, contractors and the railway interface.
  • Tracking engineering submissions and outstanding actions.
  • Technical change coordination and assurance close-out.

Agree the appointment before delivery

Each proposed appointment needs a clear brief, suitable competence and the relevant project acceptance. We will discuss the required discipline, project stage, deliverables and interfaces before defining the commission.

Support your existing team

Some projects need support for a particular construction activity; others require an ongoing engineering management role. The service should complement the developer’s consultants and contractors, with responsibilities recorded clearly.

Typical interface discussions

Crane operations, piling proposals, temporary works and design coordination can each generate engineering management requirements. Discuss the actual scheme so that the support matches the work being undertaken.

Define the role before the appointment

Bring the required discipline, proposed works, programme and any engineering management requirements already issued. We agree the role, deliverables and interfaces before taking on an appointment.

Responsibilities remain explicit

CEM and CRE support does not replace the contractor’s delivery duties or each designer’s appointed responsibilities. Competence and project acceptance must match the proposed role.

Have a development beside the railway?

Tell us the location, proposed works and current stage. Include any planned cranes, piling rigs or other plant and details of Network Rail engagement so far.
